And So It Begins

Last Friday we officially started harvest. Andrew wasn't here because he was down in American Falls again doing some custom harvesting but while he was down there we had a little excitement in our front yard, literally... Now before you start thinking it was an accident, they were just unloading the grain cart from the semi they brought from American Falls. It was just funny that they decided to do it on my front lawn and on the road. I guess that was the place where the semi trailer bed could be the same level as the ground/road next to it. So they stopped traffic for about 15 minutes on Labor Day weekend. Kinda crazy, oh and I took pictures!:)

But this little chick was the most entertaining by far.

I realized that my parents may want to know what the homestead looks like, not really all that different from last year, it's still home.

Yesterday I decided to take over my mom's job and make dinner for the harvest crew. I decided to make something very easy for them to eat in the combine/trucks/tractor and so I made cabbage rolls, they were such a hit last year I thought I would make them again this year. Along with some delicious oatmeal raisin cookies. Oatmeal cookies always remind me of harvest time.
Then the girls and I headed up to Highland to deliver our goodies.

haha funny picture
Here are a few of our hired hands, Jesus and Chon. They drive the trucks along with Kristine and Lee Young.
Felix, Chon's Dad. He drives the grain cart.

It froze pretty bad the other night and so I figured it was time for me to get out and do a little harvesting of my own.
I'm pretty impressed with all of my produce. It looks great and it's quite fulfilling to be able to take care of something for months and then be able to use it to make delicious meals.
Okay so I didn't grow the pineapple or raise the chicken for these kabobs.
Maybe next year... :)

The pictures you took of the rolling fields are so gorgeous, and the Tetons look beautiful. Those shots could have been on calendars. Garden produce tastes the best. I hope that you enjoyed your ka-bobs. The girlies look so cute and sunshiney. I hope that you post more harvest pictures soon.
