I can't believe I'm a soccer mom! :)
Yep, Leah started soccer this summer, she had two practices and her first game on Wednesday. She doesn't have the official jersey yet since she's one of the littlest on the team but she still looked very sporty in her shorty shorts, shin guards and shoes. She is on a team of 4-6 year olds so there is quite a range of abilities, but for the most part she held her own.
Grandma and Grandpa Baum were there to cheer her on and I'm glad that they were because that was quite the entertaining hour!
Since it was the first time playing for some of the kids the coaches stayed on the field to coach and referee at the same time.
At first Leah was a little confused as to why they each didn't have a ball, since that's how it was in practice. She got pretty frustrated when a kid on her own team took off with the ball down the field and made a goal without her. Yes, there were tears....lots of arms folded and refusing to play because, "everyone keeps taking the ball!" But as soon as we convinced her that she had to get in there and kick the ball she started getting pretty good.
I don't think I've laughed quite so hard in a long time. It was such an entertaining game, at one point her good friend Hailee Stegelmeier kicked off her shoe, the game didn't stop so Leah continued with the ball down the field.
She and Hailee were pretty aggressive but were often distracted by the water cooler on the side of the field and felt free to visit it in the middle of the game. Oh well..
But after a little refreshment they were back at it again!
We don't know who won but many goals were scored. It was soo much fun to watch her and I can't wait to go again, especially now that the play of the game makes more sense to her. She looks pretty athletic and showed some great talent so I hope she enjoys herself this soccer season because I know her fans sure will!

How fun. Maybe she will have a game when I am up there. I am sure she will be quite athletic considering her genes. She looks like she was holding her own. Now you need to get her some knee socks to wear over her shin guards and then she will really look the part.
I wish I could have seen the action. The idea of Leah being so new at the game and learning how a game is different than practice sounds very entertaining. I'll bet that you weren't the only person laughing really hard. Thank you for posting.
