Andrew's Grandfather Raymond Hawkes passed away September 14th. I thought that for record keeping purposes I would copy his obituary for our keeping.
Our dear husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, Raymond Higginbotham Hawkes, 95, of Sugar City passed peacefully at his home Sept. 14, 2011, of natural causes. He was born Dec. 15, 1915, in Farnum to Acil Smart and Francis Marion Hawkes.
He grew up on the family dry farm near Drummond. He is the second of five children. He attended grade school in Farnum and Drummond and graduated from high school in Logan, Utah, in 1934. He attended San Mateo Junior College in California for two years before serving an LDS Church mission in Germany from 1937 to 1939.
Raymond attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where he received his bachelor's degree in business administration and accounting in 1942.
He served in the Navy during World War II, from 1942 to 1945, primarily in the Pacific.
He married Leah Isabelle Davidson on Feb. 14, 1945, in the Salt Lake Temple. They farmed near Drummond while raising their family in Sugar City.
He was elected and served for one term as a representative from Fremont County to the Idaho State Legislature during 1947.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held numerous positions in the church, including stake young men's president, bishop's counselor, ward and financial clerk and temple officiator.
He and his wife served a mission in Akron, Ohio, in the mission office from 1986 to 1988.
They also established a farmstead north of Sugar City, where they lived until the Teton Dam flood in 1976. They rebuilt their home in Sugar City, where they have remained until now. He spent the time since his mission helping on the farm where he drove the tractors and trucks until age 91.
His children include the late Raymond D. Hawkes, Elaine (Allen) Schauerhamer of Rexburg, Doug (Elizabeth) Hawkes of South Jordan, Utah, Brian (LaRee) Hawkes of Sugar City, Kelly (Marianne) Hawkes of Los Altos, Calif., Jim (Kathy) Hawkes of Drummond, Richard (Niki) Hawkes of Twin Falls, Grant (Heidi) Hawkes of Sugar City and Betty (Glen) Ishoy of Villa Rica, Ga. He has 57 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother and three sisters; a son and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, at the Sugar City Gray Church (2nd and 4th Ward building), with Bishop Walter Deitz officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and Saturday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services.

The day after the services we had a party for Andrew's dad, he had a wonderful birthday with family.
